So today I had my first interview(s) in Nashville. It’s a pretty funny story.
rnSo, I was sort of ready for the day, except I went to bed a littlernlate. Then about 5am I woke up with a bad stomach ache, notrnsomething that usually happens to me. It went away but I lost myrnlast hour of sleep. Then it was time to get ready to go. Irnquickly realized to major flaws in my attire: 1) I forgot to get arnblack belt, and chip (whose house we are staying at momentarily) has arnsmaller waist then me so I’m out of luck. And 2) The shirt that wasrnbest ironed (and since it was nicely ironed I didn’t bother ironingrnanymore), turned out to be far too small for me (who gave me that darnrnshirt, I think it was Nate). I had trouble tying my tie too, rnwhich was frustrating. So after a quick breakfast I still had onrnthe agenda to buy a new shirt and belt before the interview.
rnI took off to the nearest store and quickly bought a shirt and belt, rnand then took the close into the bathroom and changed there. ThenrnI was off. Our air conditioning doesn’t work so I’m cruising withrnthe windows down hoping I don’t hit any major traffic lest my naturalrnair conditioning stops working (did I mention it’s hot inrnNashville?). Fortunately, Nashville isn’t nearly like Chicago andrnI flew through the city, with more then enough time on my hands. rnWhich is good because I missed the exit and had to cross the big riverrnin Nashville before I got to the next exit to turn around.
rnI end up getting near the place still an hour before my interview time, rnso I’ve got a little time to kill (I wanted to show up about 20minsrnearly to fill out the application they had). I figure it’s arnbusiness area so they should have a starbucks or something, I don’trnneed coffee I need airconditioning! I drive slowly from the place andrncan’t find a coffeeshop or anything around. I’m getting reallyrnhot when I see the oasis in the desert, Kroger! (it’s a grocery storernfor all you northerners). I park the car and go inside. I’mrnsweating which is not good. So I randomly stroll through thernfrozen foods section, stopping at each door and holding it open while Irnstare at a TV dinner and ready the health content (they aren’t reallyrnthat bad actually). After about 20 freezer doors I’ve cooled downrnand am feeling quite fresh. I had back to the interview (Which isrnat Second Harvest Food Bank), and start filling out the application.
rnThe interview went GREAT! I’m being considered for two positions, rnboth a grant writing (more of a desk job, internet research andrnwriting) and a Field Service Rep (drive around and see all the sheltersrnand churches the Food bank works with) job. The interview wentrnwell and I already got a call for a second interview on Tuesday!
rnWhen I got out I checked the voicemail on the cell phone (Mindy isrnreally excited about the cell phone), and I had a call about anotherrninterview! I had called the other places I had applied letting themrnknow I was gonna be in the area (I figure if I’m dressed up why notrnmake the most of it). So I called them and they said come overrnright now! I interviewed there, it’s a web design and communications position for a legal services group for low income families. That interview went really well too.
rnThen I got out and checked the messages again, another interview! Thisrnone I booked it over to meet her before lunch. It’s for a sort ofrnvolunteer recruitment and more type position getting community members to help in the public schools, writing curriculm and more. It seems interesting.
rnWow! What a crazy day. It went really well and I’m so excited about that.
rnJust thought I’d let you all know.
rnPlease pray I get an interview with the Oasis job soon since that is the one I would really like right now. Thanks!

Okay, this has been amazing.
rnMindy and I got into nashville last night. The drive went finernand we unloaded all our stuff at our friends Chip and Kris forrnnow. We’re staying there for the week while we look for work andrna job.
rnWe went downtown today to see what’s around. We drove to wherernMindy’s school is and then started driving slowly away from thererntowards the neighborhood we’d heard about being a little morerndiverse. literally like four blocks away we saw a “For Rent”rnsign. We called the lady (on our new cell phone, we are justrntrying it out) and she came by and showed us in a few minutes. rnIt’s a two bedroom for $600 a month, a complete steal that close tornVandy. We’d rent out the second bedroom which would put our costrnunder our $400 mark.
rnBut wait there is more. That great job I’m interviewing for is atrnthe Oasis center which is also literally four blocks away from thatrnapartment. This would be a God send if this job and thisrnapartment worked out.
rnPlease pray, we’ll keep you updated!

rnWe’ve done it!!!! This is our new community site. For all us recent graduates and folks still at Wheaton…
rnWe need a place where we can compile memories, thoughts, ideas, pictures, etc.
rnThis site is meant to do all that, and it only happens with your inputrnand writing. It’s got a small learning curve, but it should berngreat. Zach and I will do the clean up so if you have questionsrnask us.
rnI hope this works out to be a wonderful place.
rnp.s. I talk funny, or at least I don’t think that madernsense. Go to that link and sign up. Click on some pages andrnhit the “edit” button and try it out.

rnCheck out Rebecca and Chris’s website which I just finished making and let me know if you see any errors.
rnI watched the whole first season of 24 (it’s a TV show), pretty goodrnand majorly addicting when you have lots of free time, but the finalrnepisode was dissappointing I thought.
rnTomorrow is Mindy and I’s two year anniversary!

So, I’m curious. What kind’s of people Xanga, of my friends?
rnIs it people who journal regularly on their own anyways and now also (or only) use a online journal for all to see?
rnIs it folks who just want to keep in touch and love reading about others lives?
rnIs it less then technologically savvy friends, or computer genius’ that find it appealing?
rnWhat brought you to Xanga?

Got the car fixed for $180. Pray it last at least to Nashville, if not for another two years.
rnConsolidating loans is the way to go. And you know it’s weird butrnit feels good to save a couple thousand dollars (technically it’s justrnmoney I’m not going to pay in interest as I pay back my loans, but yournknow, it still feels good). I’ll give you an update on the bestrnplaces I found to go with.
rnI’ve got a great, amazing job lead (I didn’t say JOB, I just said JOBrnLEAD, but you can always pray for it) with a health clinic inrnNashville. It’s an administrative position, and the organizationrnseems amazing. It’s a couple blocks from where Mindy would be atrnschool so we could find a place to live right in that community. rnWe’ll see how it works out. I got the lead from emailing Wheatonrnalumni, it’s a pretty cool school after all.

Money, Money, Money.
rnHas anyone consolidated there loans yet? I’m trying to find out whose best to go with.
rnOur car is in bad shape, trying to decide if we should just get a newrncar now, rather then spend an arm and leg fixing this one. Anyrnthoughts?
rnDoctor bills, car repairs, loan repayment, anyone else want some money?
